Ingredients
- 12 large eggs, hard-boiled
- 1 large cucumber
- 150 g thinly sliced beef or turkey salami
- 1 large carrot, for the decorative egg roses
- Fresh parsley or dill
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1 large decorative white serving platter
Cooking Instructions
- 01
1. Prepare the eggs: Peel the hard-boiled eggs and slice them into thin, even rounds. Keep some slices slightly thicker for the flower centers.
- 02
2. Make the egg flowers: Arrange the egg slices in overlapping circles, with the yolks facing upward. Build several large daisy-shaped flowers around the platter.
- 03
3. Create the yellow centers: Use thin strips or curled slices of carrot to form tight spiral roses and place one in the center of each large egg flower.
- 04
4. Make the meat roses: Roll thin slices of beef or turkey salami around one another, slightly overlapping each slice, until they form rose shapes. Secure the base if necessary and arrange them between the egg flowers.
- 05
5. Prepare the cucumber leaves: Slice cucumber lengthwise into thin curved pieces. Arrange several slices behind each flower to resemble leaves.
- 06
6. Create the green stems: Use thin cucumber ribbons or strips to form stems, loops, and decorative curls between the flowers.
- 07
7. Add the center flower: Place a smaller salami rose in the middle and surround it with cucumber ribbons and fresh herbs.
- 08
8. Finish the platter: Add parsley or dill into the open spaces, keeping the arrangement symmetrical and floral.
- 09
9. Optional dipping sauce: Mix mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Serve in a small bowl alongside the platter.
- 10
10. Serving: Chill the finished platter for 20–30 minutes before serving. It makes a gorgeous party appetizer, brunch centerpiece, or holiday grazing platter.
Chef notes
- Use fully cooled hard-boiled eggs so the slices stay neat and don’t crumble. - Slice the eggs with a sharp knife for clean, even petals. - Chill the salami slices slightly before shaping the roses; they’ll be easier to roll. - Use a vegetable peeler to create thin cucumber ribbons for the stems and decorative loops. - Assemble the platter just before serving for the freshest appearance. - Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.
