Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 loaf rustic French or Italian bread
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup shredded smoked gouda or pepper jack cheese

Optional Cowboy Toppings

  • 1–2 jalapeños, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 tsp red chili flakes
  • Cracked black pepper, to taste

Instructions

Step 1: Slice the Bread

  • Slice your loaf of rustic bread in half lengthwise. Place the halves cut-side up on a parchment-lined baking tray.

Step 2: Make the Garlic Butter

  • In a small bowl, mix softened butter with minced garlic and chopped parsley. Spread evenly on the bread.

Step 3: Add the Cowboy Cheese Blend

  • Top each half with a generous mix of shredded cheddar, mozzarella, and smoked gouda. Add bacon bits and jalapeño slices for cowboy flair.

Step 4: Bake It Until Bubbling

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 10–12 minutes until cheese is melted and edges are golden. Optional: Broil for 1–2 minutes for extra crispness.

Step 5: Slice and Serve

  • Let the bread cool slightly, then slice into thick pieces. Serve warm with chili, BBQ, or enjoy as a cheesy snack.

Notes

  • Broiling adds crunch but keep an eye to avoid burning.
  • For extra spice, add a dash of hot sauce to the butter mix.
  • Use dairy-free cheese to make it suitable for lactose-intolerant guests.
