Ingredients
  

  • 3 ½ cups bread flour (or all-purpose flour)
  • 1 ¼ cups warm water (105–110°F)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar or honey (optional, to activate yeast)

Optional Additions:

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried herbs (rosemary, oregano, or thyme)
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Sesame or poppy seeds (for topping)

Instructions
 

Step 1: Activate the Yeast

  • 1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar/honey.
    2. Stir and let sit for 5–10 minutes, until foamy.

Step 2: Mix the Dough

  • 3. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt.
    4. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until combined.

Step 3: Knead the Dough

  • 5. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 4: First Rise

  • 6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 5: Shape the Dough

  • 7. Punch down the dough, shape it into a round or oval loaf, and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Step 6: Second Rise

  • 8. Cover with a towel and let it rise for another 30–45 minutes.
    9. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

Step 7: Score and Bake

  • 10. Use a sharp knife to score the top.
    11. Bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown.

Step 8: Cool and Serve
